Petrified wood
Petrified wood forms over millions of years as wood tissue is gradually replaced by silica minerals, most often quartz or chalcedony. It preserves the original structure of growth rings. It has a hardness of about 7 on the Mohs scale. It is used for beads and pendants, and as a collector and decorative stone.
