Quartz
Quartz is silicon dioxide and one of the most abundant minerals of the Earth's crust. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and usually forms six-sided crystals. Its varieties include rock crystal, amethyst, citrine, smoky quartz and rose quartz. It is also piezoelectric, which is why it is used in watches, for example.
