Smoky quartz is a variety of quartz colored by admixtures of aluminum, sodium and lithium. It is a relatively common semi-precious stone, often sought after for its brown color. The dark brown to black, almost opaque variety of quartz is called morion; the boundary between smoky quartz and morion is debatable.
