Smoky quartz

Smoky quartz is a smoky brown to grayish-brown variety of quartz. Its color comes from natural radiation acting on traces of aluminum in the crystal. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. It is mined, for example, in Switzerland, Brazil and Madagascar and is a popular jewelry stone.
