Howlite
Howlite is a white mineral with gray to black veins, made of calcium borate. It has a hardness of only 3.5 on the Mohs scale and is porous, so it takes dye well. Dyed howlite is often sold as a cheaper substitute for turquoise. In undyed stones the white color is natural.
